Louise E. Miller

Louise E. Miller has been involved in Listening Hearts Ministries from its beginning. As an active member of Memorial Episcopal Church in Baltimore, MD where Listening Hearts Ministries was born, she was among those asked by Suzanne Farnham to assist in the research project that led to the book Listening Hearts and ultimately, to the organization. Louise was in the pilot group trained as discerners at Memorial Church in 1989 and later was part of the first group trained as trainers. Along with others, she was a co-author of the Manual for Discussion Leaders.

As the Listening Hearts Ministries office grew, Louise became Coordinator of Program Support and held that position until she retired at the end of 2003. Part of her responsibility was to co-edit the Listening Hearts Songbook. She located copyright holders and secured permissions for songs needing such permission, wrote and laid out the credits text for each page. Following the songbook's publication it became her responsibility to see that royalties were paid to copyright holders.

Born and raised in Maryland, Louise has a Master's degree in Liberal Arts from The Johns Hopkins University. She spent many years in public education, first as a history teacher and then as a high school library/media chairperson. Her retirement from that career opened the way to the renewed energy and time needed for involvement with Listening Hearts Ministries. Now, Louise continues as volunteer Coordinator of Prayer Support while remaining active in her parish as Registrar, healing minister and facilitator of the Pastoral Care Committee. Trained at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Bethesda, MD, she also offers spiritual direction outside the parish. She still has time to walk, travel, read, write and enjoy music.
